Beginning Obstacle Skills

Put the core skills you developed in Agility Foundation Skills to use! This class builds upon your dog’s foundation skills to continue developing jumping skills and safety, as well as introducing contact obstacles such as the A Frame, Pause Table, Teeter, and Dog Walk. All obstacles will be completed at lower heights as your dog learns how to safely perform obstacles.
Special Notes: The skills in this class are done off leash.
This class is best suited for: People who want to continue agility training by transferring foundation skills to actual agility equipment. This class is best suited for dogs who enjoy being active and are comfortable working around high activity levels.
Min/Max Enrollment: 4/8
Bring the Following to Class:
- Flat Buckle Collar (with no tags)
- 4-6 foot leash (no flexi-leashes please)
- Water and water dish
- Small, tasty, treats which are easy for the dog to see when tossed on the floor (such as string cheese, peanut butter Captain Crunch cereal, hot dogs, cheese balls, etc.)
- Toys which your dog enjoys (tug toys, balls, etc.)
- A pouch or deep pockets for easy access to treats
- Clicker
You will learn:
- How to train your dog to safely perform low contact obstacles
- How to build your dog’s value for agility equipment
- How rate of reinforcement and placement of reward affects training
- When to add verbal cues
- How your body language affects training agility obstacles
Your dog will learn:
- To go between jump standards (low bar jump, low tire jump, and narrow broad jump)
- To jump onto pause table and hold position until released
- To confidently go through short curved tunnels
- Increased confidence around the noise and movement of the teeter
- To run over low A-frame and low dog walk
