Certification

We are proud to have several instructors who have earned the credential of Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA).

At TCCA all instructors continually strive to improve their training and teaching skills through on-going education. This includes attending seminars. workshops, conferences, online classes, etc. We are committed to incorporating the most up-to-date, scientific methods in both training and teaching.

Why Choose a certified dog trainer?

Dog training is a science. But because dog training is an unregulated industry without licensing or mandatory education requirements, it can be difficult to tell who has the requisite knowledge of animal behavior and science-based training methods. This makes it difficult to know what to look for.

That’s where independent certification comes into the picture. The CPDT-KA certification tells you a number of things about the dog training professionals who have earned the credential:

  • Proven skills and knowledge of humane, science-based dog training

  • The drive and determination to successfully complete a rigorous exam process

  • A commitment to a strict ethical code for personal and business conduct

  • A commitment to continuing education and professional development

  • A commitment to enhancing the dog training profession

Choosing certified professionals gives you a way to easily find those who have the knowledge, skills and experience.

The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) is the leading independent certifying organization for the dog training profession. The CCPDT is the leader in the development of rigorous exams to demonstrate mastery of humane, science-based dog training practices. Dog training professionals worldwide maintain the CCPDT’s certifications as a mark of high professional distinction.

In 2018, The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, and the Association of Professional Dog Trainers came to an agreement on joint Standards of Practice for their organizations, and created a unified code of ethics which includes ethics for methods used in training, as well as ethics for conducting business.
