Private Consultations/Lessons

Private lessons typically fall into one of the categories below:

reactive/aggressive dogs

If you have a highly reactive or aggressive dog, for whom group classes are not appropriate, you may need individualized training. Such training will take place in your home or other appropriate location. We strongly recommend Dr. Duxbury in the Twin Cities for aggressive animals: Veterinary Behavior Specialties of Minnesota. We do not do private lessons for aggressive dogs.

Individual issues

Situations exist that training can help with, but which are not appropriate for a group class. Things such as persistent housebreaking challenges, resource guarding, over-excitability in specific situations, excessive barking, building confidence in shy dogs, etc., can be addressed through individualized private lessons. NOTES ABOUT PRIVATE LESSONS:

• Private lessons can be held in the dog’s home environment, at the TCCA campus, or other appropriate location.  Your instructor will work with you to determine what works best on a case-by-case basis. (Please note that the release form and vaccination requirements (found under policies #10) are the same as regular classes if the private lessons are held at the TCCA campus.)

• The cost of a private lesson will depend on several factors such as where it takes place, the duration of the lesson, etc.  The cost will be determined on an individual basis.

• Depending on the dog’s needs and your goals, you can generally expect a minimum of two sessions.
